I will admit, leaving school last week was tough emotionally. (Not to mention the fact that we were battling a Tropical Storm so the act of driving away was literally tough.)
Leaving a place where the families have not only been positive and uplifting when I have worked with their students, but they have also been positive and uplifting since I’ve announced my decision to step out on my own is an interesting feeling. Not only do they say that they genuinely care about students and education, but they back it up with action and no judgment. That speaks volumes about their character and that was admittingly hard to walk away from.
I held it together until about midweek when some of the families who couldn’t make it in due to the Tropical Storm, went out of their way to drop off sweet cards and gifts. However, because I know these families are simply good humans, I know that this will not be the last time that I see or hear from them and that I will always have their support. (I know because they told me too.) 🙂
However, when I reflect back on what it was like to leave the last two schools that I worked at, I can honestly say that it ended up turning out better than I anticipated. Not all aspects, but I definitely found the positives and believe that I have grown better and stronger from each experience and that each step has intentionally led me to where I am today.
Since that last walk out of the door, I was able to pass on the “Heart of Shore Acres” Award to our very deserving custodian, gave a Keynote presentation, received some good news about our space for next year, officially hired our first Indi-ED staff members, hosted our friends for a birthday dinner, was on the news again with my former student/”Fashion Prodigy”, installed our back splash, connected with two professionals who are interested in sharing their talents with our students next year, chatted with two more interested mothers, and am preparing for our Indi-ED students’ and families’ first meet and greet this Saturday. Did I mention that was only 5 days ago?!
Busy is an understatement. I share not to say that others don’t have a busy life, but to acknowledge that this has been the busiest yet the HAPPIEST I have ever been in my life! While this is an ending of one chapter, this is certainly an exciting beginning to another.
Busy and thriving! If this is a sign of what’s to come, I say BRING IT ON!
Stay tuned for some additional, exciting updates within this upcoming week.
Much Love my past, present, and future!
