It’s called Indi-ED because we get to be real individuals here, and for part of our time, we get to work on projects based on our own individual interests.
We learn so much here. The year is split into three units. Each one is different and they all tie into our interests. The three themes of the units are Communication, Creativity, and Innovation. We are now working on the theme of Communication.
For our projects this unit, we had to brainstorm and come up with an idea of something we wanted to learn about. We then connected it to communication. After that, we researched experts that could help us learn about our ideas.
We’ve had to do so much work to just get one interview! We had to research people, then find their contact information. After all that, we had to write a real email to send them. Then we waited for a response (repeat if necessary).
Now I know what my parents have to do every day, because they send a lot of emails!

Then, once you get your response, you start writing your interview questions (and you edit and edit until you are happy with what you have). Rehearsing your lines and interview questions helps a lot too.
Finally the day comes and you are so nervous. I did my interview over Skype, and before it started I jumped up and down to get the nervous energy out. It really worked!

Once my interview was over, I felt so happy and was glad that I did it. I learned so much from talking to my expert. And now I know exactly how I want to finish my project.
It feels really cool to be able to learn from real experts. My project is about colors (that’s all I’ll say for now) and I learned from an interior designer that owns her own business. She had so much knowledge to share with me, and she was very nice too.
I love Indi-ED because I get to have real-life learning, and I also get to work on the subjects I love, like math and science.
You know how people say “Happy Friday” at the end of the week? Well, to me it’s not “happy” because it means I have to wait two whole days before I get to go back to school.

Se llama Indi-ED porque aquí somos personas individuales de verdad, y durante parte de nuestro tiempo podemos trabajar en proyectos basados en nuestros propios intereses individuales.
Aquí aprendemos mucho. El año se divide en tres unidades. Cada una es diferente y todas se relacionan con nuestros intereses. Los tres temas de las unidades son Comunicación, Creatividad e Innovación. Ahora estamos trabajando en el tema de Comunicación.
Para nuestros proyectos de esta unidad tuvimos que intercambiar ideas y proponer una idea de algo que queríamos aprender. Luego lo conectamos al tema de comunicación. Después de eso buscamos expertos que podían ayudarnos a aprender de nuestras ideas.
¡Tuvimos que trabajar mucho para obtener por lo menos una entrevista! Tuvimos que buscar personas, luego encontrar su información de contacto. Después de todo eso tuvimos que escribir un correo electrónico de verdad para enviarlo. Luego esperamos por una respuesta (repetir si es necesario).
¡Ahora sé lo que mis padres tienen que hacer todos los días, porque ellos envían muchos correos electrónicos!

Luego, una vez que obtienes respuesta, comienzas a escribir las preguntas de tu entrevista (y tu editas y editas hasta que estés satisfecho con lo que tienes). Ensayar las líneas y las preguntas de la entrevista ayuda mucho también.
Finalmente llega el día y estás muy nerviosa. Hice mi entrevista por Skype, y antes de que comenzara salté arriba y abajo para quitarme los nervios. ¡Realmente funcionó!

Una vez que mi entrevista terminó, me sentí muy feliz y me alegré de haberlo hecho. Aprendí mucho al hablar con un experto. Ahora sé exactamente cómo quiero terminar mi proyecto.
Se siente muy bien el poder aprender de expertos reales. Mi proyecto es sobre colores (eso es todo lo que voy a decir por ahora) y aprendí de una diseñadora de interiores que posee su propio negocio. Ella tenía mucho conocimiento para compartir conmigo, y fue muy amable.
Amo Indi-ED porque aprendo cosas de la vida real, y también puedo trabajar en los temas que mas me gustan, como las matemáticas y la ciencia.
¿Sabes cómo hay personas que dicen “Feliz Viernes” al final de la semana? Bueno, para mí no es “feliz” porque significa que tengo que esperar dos días completos antes de volver al colegio.
